“An Unseen Village”
Exploring the importance of community within mental health struggles. Although you may see a single dancer on stage, the elements surrounding the piece such as the music, costuming, and lighting are all representational of the community and support system each individual needs in order to move through their days when things get hard. Although the individuals behind each of these elements are not represented in the same way the dancer is while on stage, their presence is invaluable to the piece. This further speaks to the notion that in the midst of mental health battles we still have to live our lives and that means we will not be constantly with our support system at every moment, but it doesn’t lessen their importance as one battles depression and anxiety. Sometimes it is the memory of the words that our person said to us that is the reason we can get through the day.
